This past weekend, current students, teachers, parents and Springfield High School alumni participated in the annual Homecoming weekend festivities. Whether it be the pep rally, tailgating, football game or even the dance, Springfield High’s Homecoming weekend is always full of fun. As freshmen experienced the thrill of the weekend for the first time, and seniors for the last, it is safe to say that this weekend was definitely a party in space.
To kick off the weekend’s festivities, the pep assembly was held in the gym around 2:15 where students gathered and certainly brought the spirit. Jeff Lightfoot and several senior class members recognized the fall sports that have been going on during the first quarter. Sports like football, volleyball, boys and girls golf, girls tennis, boys soccer and girls swimming and diving were all recognized at the assembly. Proceeding these recognitions, the cheer team performed their special homecoming routine which included many high level stunts. The Scarlet Line dance team also performed two dance routines, one of which featured several members of the football team. The Homecoming court was also recognized at the assembly with two court members from both the freshman and sophomore classes, four members from the junior class and 12 members from the senior class. The assembly also included several cheers that all the classes participated in and the highly anticipated announcement of the winner to this year’s homecoming hallway decorations.
Only a few hours of recovery were given after the pep assembly before our Solons were back on their feet at the annual Homecoming tailgate. Many sports and activities sold food and other goodies in order to raise money for their cause. A few notable food items from this year’s tailgate were the cheer team’s cake pops and the yearbook’s mini-cakes. Many students came out to support their friends and clubs which made for a good crowd.
The Friday night lights never looked so good as the newly renovated Memorial Stadium radiated the Solon fever in both the student and parent fan sections. The football team pulled away early to eventually take a 43-14 victory over the Spartans at home. But the score was not the only exciting part of the night. Our Scarlet Line dance team performed their highly anticipated kickline during halftime that definitely got the crowd going. Then, our marching band performed as well as the announcing of this year’s homecoming court. Needless to say, it was definitely a night to remember.
Although many thought Friday was as good as it got, Saturday simply knocked it out of the galaxy. The Student Council members stayed at the school until 3:30 a.m. Saturday morning to get the Commons transformed into another universe for the dance, and they definitely did. The dance was nothing short of excitement for all who came. Whether you moshed in the mosh pit or got a 360 video of you and your friends at the 360 machine, it was definitely a good time for all. Ben Kramer announced this year’s Homecoming King– Nathan Unland– and Homecoming Queen– Shariyah Jackson.
While the excitement from the weekend may be over, the memories will certainly last forever. As many Solons would agree, it was definitely an “Out of this World” weekend full of many fun events and activities!
