As the holiday season approaches, many are blessed with the ability to receive gifts in celebration. While gifts are not the core of the holiday season, they are a fun part that increases excitement and helps show love and appreciation for others. Many may have a hard time coming up with what to give others during this season, so I asked some Springfield High School students what they want this holiday season. Students expressed diverse ideas that will bring forth inspiration for what to gift and ask for these coming holidays!
The first gift recommendation is shoes. Shoes are obviously beneficial and it is nice to have options to choose from while figuring out what to wear, even depending on the season. Mary O’Brien, a junior, requests On Cloud shoes for one of her Christmas gifts. O’Brien suggests that these shoes would be extremely comfortable for everyday wear and would go well with any outfit. Going into more seasonal shoes, Olivia McGuire and Annabelle Harris, juniors, want Ultra Mini Ugg Boots. McGuire explains, “The Ultra Mini Uggs look so cute and comfortable, they would be perfect for Illinois’ fall and winter. They also go with so many pieces from jeans to sweats.” These trendy, serviceable shoes are sure to be practical coming into the new year and would be a great gift for family and friends.
Transitioning from shoes, many Springfield High students requested gifts related to their personal sports. Juniors Sophia Cathers and Jacob Jenkins both described how they want new golf clubs for their upcoming senior seasons. Sophomore Elliot Kaisner has his track and field season starting in January and wants brand-new Nike spikes to run him through his season successfully. Soccer apparel and accessories seem to rank as a commonly desired gift as well. Juniors Madison and Rylee Clark want new soccer cleats; Bridget Lyons, a sophomore, wants a concussion headband for her upcoming soccer season. Lyons describes her desire for this gift, “One of the girls on my team wore a concussion headband and I believe it is a smart call and will help with my game.” Finding a gift that is applicable to a preferred sport will definitely be helpful and appreciated.
Beauty and wellness was also a popular suggestion for gifts. Madison and Rylee Clark described how they wanted the original Sol De Janeiro 68 perfume for the new year. Madison says, “I want the Sol De Janeiro perfume mainly because I am looking for a fresh start and a new scent of the new year, but also because of its popularity and support for the perfume.” Cathers wanted more makeup and quality lotion for the new year, giving her a chance to refresh her beauty supplies and add more variety. Beauty and wellness gifts are always a safe option as they usually are a necessity for some people’s lives.
As the year is winding down and the holiday season ramping up, it is great to have some ideas of what others may want for a gift as well as what would be nice for a gift for yourself. Springfield High students did a great job sharing ideas such as different types of shoes, sports-related gifts and beauty/wellness items. But let us remember– the holidays are not all about presents… they are about the right presents!
