As the year is coming to an end, there are many traditions people love to celebrate, including Spotify Wrapped. Spotify Wrapped is a viral marketing campaign that Spotify created and has been releasing every December since 2016. The campaign allows Spotify users to view a compilation of their data on the platform over the past year and encourages them to share the data on social media.

Many students at Springfield High School listen to Spotify and enjoy sharing their Spotify Wrapped. A survey displayed that Taylor Swift is the top artist for over 40% of Senator students. This statistic is not surprising, taking into account what the artist has achieved over the years. Taylor Swift even won The New York Times Person of the Year. A few other top artists this year are Drake, Tame Impala, Zach Bryan, Noah Kahan, Olivia Rodrigo, Frank Ocean, Phoebe Bridgers, Lana Del Rey, 21 Savage, Steve Lacy, J. Cole and Kanye West.

There is a variety of top songs, including “Father Stretch My Hands Pt.1,” “Resonance,” “It Was a Good Day,” “The Less I Know the Better,” “Hotel,” “Rockland,” “ Revival” and “This is What Heartbreak Feels Like.” A common pattern emerged, showing that students’ top songs are often from their top artist. Along with this, the top genre– with 62.5% of students–  is pop music.

Almost 38% of students listened to Spotify music for 15,000 to 20,000 minutes and 62.5% of students listened for 20,000+ minutes. The top listening month varied among students, but October and May won with 25% in each month. Students listen to music for a variety of reasons, and clearly these add up to many minutes!
