Holidays originated solely as celebrations for religious purposes: ‘holy days’ as expressed in their title of “holidays.” Since their origin in the mid-nineteenth century, holidays have been celebrated in places of worship like churches, temples, mosques and synagogues, followed by varying festivities like parades and feasts. Of course, different religions celebrate different holidays, like Christianity celebrating holidays like Christmas and Easter, Judaism celebrating holidays like Yom Kippur and Hanukkah, Islam celebrating Ramadan and Eid al-Adha, Hinduism celebrating Diwali and Holi, and many more. However, holidays have grown more common with national holidays breaking out over less significant, silly reasons. Some of these holidays include National Pet Day, National Caramel Day and National Banana Day. These holidays could be celebrated by showing a little extra love to your pet, indulging in a sweet caramel treat or chowing down on bananas. However, our holiday is, of course, the most special to us.
Roof Day originated Nov. 17 of 2023, when Neko Baker and Olivia McGuire, news reporters, grew fascinated with the opportunity of exploring the elevated altitude. The two eager beavers knew their lives would be forever changed once they stepped foot on the roof. They struck up a deal with Benjamin Kramer, a super-cool guy, who promised them a trip on many conditions. The three carefully chose the perfect date to celebrate: April 24. After endless begging and hours spent doing intense child labor, the two finally earned their reward of a trip to the roof. The months from November to April passed slowly, dragging on until McGuire and Baker could hardly handle it anymore! They needed to get on the roof. When the time came, joy and elation overcame them, but little did these two know that this roof would become more than just a boring roof. It became their oasis; their utopia; their paradise; a haven that simply must be accompanied with a holiday dedicated to it.
Unfortunately, this year Baker and McGuire refrained from celebrating on the actual holiday, postponing their tradition in order to celebrate with Benjamin at a later date. Benjamin Kramer is not only a super cool guy, he is also a super busy guy, so he spent his April 24th in meetings. Although this was a disappointment to Baker and McGuire, they still held out hope as they knew Kramer would never let them down. They wished each other Happy Roof Day and went on with their normal lives, wishing one day they would return to their sacred spot.
