At the beginning of the year all the amazing, excellent and talented Newspaper staffers provided the student body with fun ideas and events to look forward to. With the promise of warm weather and late mornings, finding motivation during a grueling fourth quarter can be tough. However,Springfield High School still has endless events and opportunities to enjoy, like spring sports, Prom for upperclassmen and Student Council elections. Now that the year is coming to an end (39 days but who’s counting) and Springfield High Senators are all at different stages of their lives, some awaiting graduation or preparing for a year of lasts or planning to get their licenses, Senators have it all. So what are Senators doing to boost morale and finish the year strong?
Freshman Tess O’Brien explains her reason for motivation stems from her parents, “My parents hold me to high standards and the better I do in the school the more freedom I have during summer.” O’Brien also states her excitement for sophomore year and getting her driver’s permit during the summer. Sophomore Lucy Ambrose acknowledges the warm weather that comes with summer as her motivation, “The weather is getting more enjoyable to come to school.” Ambrose also looks forward to a lighter course load. “I only have to work hard a little bit longer before I get a long break.” While underclassmen have less events to look forward to it does not mean they have to be less motivated at Springfield High School!
Nearing the end of the year, juniors and seniors may find it even harder to find motivation especially with the promise of finishing an academically challenging year and graduating. Junior Sagan Turner admits,“what’s keeping me motivated is thinking about college and being motivated to do well because I want to get into a good college.” College is a major lifetime experience so it is no surprise that Turner finds motivation in choosing the place that is right for her. Along with Turner, senior Andrew Kotner (who plans on attending Arizona State University) elaborates on what it means to be a senior during this time. “I’m looking forward to graduation as well as spending the time I have left with my friends before we all go to college.” Upperclassmen have endless activities to look forward to with big decisions and opportunities coming their way.
While it is important for students to find motivation, what about the teachers? Spanish teacher, Brendan Reichert expressed his gratitude of the access to his new room and technology, “I mean the new classroom definitely helps with staying motivated.” SeñorReichert is not the only one excited with the construction as students also appreciate all of the new amenities. History teacher Jeff Lightfoot communicated his source of motivation is “All the money I’m making.” Mr.Lightfoot elaborated by saying “When you have a job you find a way to like it for me it’s the money.” SHS’s teachers prioritize finding motivation in order to finish the year strong with the students.
While the fourth quarter may seem daunting, SHS still has endless sports events and activities for students and staff to enjoy. Staying motivated and finishing the year strong is vital to entering summer feeling proud and accomplished of everything you over-came throughout the school year. Instead of thinking about all the daunting and looming deadlines, think about the feeling of accomplishment and happiness that comes with finishing finals and receiving the grade you deserve.
